Electrostatic Model of Atomic Ordering in Complex Perovskite Alloys

چکیده

We present a simple ionic model which successfully reproduces the various types of compositional long-range order observed in a large class of complex insulating perovskite alloys. The model assumes that the driving mechanism responsible for the ordering is simply the electrostatic interaction between the different ionic species. A possible new explanation for the anomalous long-range order observed in some Pb relaxor alloys, involving the proposed existence of a small amount of Pb14 on the B sublattice, is suggested by an analysis of the model. Charge transfer electrostatic model of compositional order in

We introduce an electrostatic model including charge transfer, which is shown to account for the observed B-site ordering in Pb-based perovskite alloys. The model allows charge transfer between A-sites and is a generalization of Bellaiche and Vanderbilt’s purely electrostatic model. The large covalency of Pb2+ compared to Ba2+ is modeled by an environment dependent effective A-site charge. Mont...

Heterovalent and A-atom effects in A„B8B9...O3 perovskite alloys

Using first-principles supercell calculations, we have investigated energetic, structural, and dielectric properties of three different A(B8B9)O3 perovskite alloys: Ba~Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 ~BZN!, Pb~Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 ~PZN!, and Pb~Zr1/3Ti2/3)O3 ~PZT!. In the homovalent alloy PZT, the energetics are found to be mainly driven by atomic relaxations. In the heterovalent alloys BZN and PZN, however, electrosta...

The master equation approach to configurational kineticsof alloys via the vacancy exchange mechanism: generalrelations and features of microstructural evolution

The earlier-suggested generalized Gibbs distribution approach to the configurational kinetics of non-equilibrium alloys is extended to the case of many-component alloys and the realistic vacancy-mediated atomic exchange mechanism is incorporated. Exact and approximate equations for the temporal evolution of atomic distributions as well as for the free energy of a non-equilibrium alloy are prese...

Monte Carlo studies of directional pair ordering in disordered binary and ternary ferromagnetic BCC crystalline alloys

Magnetic field annealing can be used to induce uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in ferromagnetic alloys, which is often desirable, for example, to reduce core losses in materials of interest for high frequency inductive components in power conversion applications. An understanding of the compositional dependence of the uniaxial induced anisotropy constant KU is important to develop materials for su...

Element-specific structure of materials with intrinsic disorder by high-energy resonant x-ray diffraction and differential atomic pair-distribution functions: A study of PtPd nanosized catalysts

We demonstrate how high-energy resonant x-ray diffraction XRD and differential atomic-pair-distribution function PDF analysis can be used to characterize the atomic ordering in materials of limited structural coherence with both excellent spatial resolution and element specificity. First we prove that this experimental approach is feasible by probing the K-absorption edge of Au 81 keV atoms in ...
